Transferring and Closing Subscriptions: Meters When Moving Out or Selling

Closing or transferring electricity, water and natural gas subscriptions when moving prevents the risk of debt and wrong bills.

Short answer: When moving, transferring subscriptions to the person taking over, or closing them, protects you from later bills and debts. Document the meter reading with a photo.

Why does it matter?

If the subscription stays in your name, you can be pursued for the debt of the next user. So close or transfer the subscription every time you move.

Steps

  1. Photograph the meter reading. Electricity, water, natural gas.
  2. Pay the bills. Ask for the closing bill.
  3. Apply for transfer or closure. Through the distribution company and the water authority's channels.
  4. Keep the document.
  5. Ask for the refund of the security deposit.

On a sale

When a property is sold, a subscription is opened in the buyer's name and the seller's subscription is closed. These procedures need to be reminded of separately on title deed day. For details, see our article title deed day.
