Don’t Just Look at the Lift When Choosing a Flat with a Pram

How do you check your daily route around the house with a pushchair? Assess the street, the building entrance, the lift, the layout of the flat and the storage area all together.

A pushchair highlights details that are easily overlooked in a property advert during everyday use. A lift may be important; however, if there are steps, tight bends or heavy doors along the way, the route changes. Assess access to the property based on your own needs.

Follow the exit route

Check the route from your flat door to the street. Is it easy to open the door and turn? Do items in the communal area narrow the passage? Using your own pushchair’s dimensions during a viewing can be more informative than a visual estimate. Tests must be carried out safely.

Usable space in the lift

The door opening and the waiting area in front of it are just as important as the lift car itself. Ask the management about maintenance and usage regulations. Assess whether you can use your car without folding it, based on the existing dimensions. Adhere to the lift’s safety regulations; do not attempt to use it in a cramped or unsuitable manner.

Storage space at home

Does the door or corridor get blocked when the car is parked at the entrance? Where will cleaning and drying take place on a rainy day? Do not assume that communal areas are for personal storage. Find out about the management’s policy and the relevant rules. Actual occupation does not, in itself, constitute a right to permanent use.

Walk around the immediate neighbourhood

Check the actual route to the supermarket and other places you’ll visit frequently. Make a note of any blocked pavements or road crossings. A short distance on the map may not be as convenient as you’d expect in daily use. Also consider the time and weather conditions.

Five-question checklist

Can I enter and exit on my own? Is there enough space to manoeuvre in front of the door? Is there storage space in the home? Is my route around the neighbourhood suitable? Which area needs adjusting?

This checklist is not a child safety assessment. When searching for a property with Buy Best Villa, sharing these recurring activities alongside the number of rooms will help you describe your usage needs more clearly.
