Why Does the Address Matter for School Registration? Notes for Tenants and Landlords

In address-based registration, the school is determined by the residence address. If no address declaration has been made, the child may remain assigned to the old address's school.

Short answer: In state schools, registration is made according to the place-of-residence address in ADNKS. If the address is not up to date, the child may be placed in the old address's school.

For the tenant

  • Make the address declaration as soon as you move in. For details, see our article change of address.
  • Keep the rental contract and subscription documents.
  • If the new address does not appear on the school lookup screen, contact the population directorate and the school.

For the landlord

If the former tenant's address record has not been deleted, the new tenant's registration may cause problems. In this case an application for removal of a person from the address can be made. For details, see our article tenant address declaration.

Moving day

Note

Update your address before the summer registration period for school placement; last-minute changes can cause quota problems.
