Antalya Airport Passengers in August 2026 and the Regional Economy

According to DHMİ, Antalya Airport handled 5.89 million passengers in August 2026 and 25.1 million from January to August. What the numbers mean for the regional economy and housing.

Antalya Airport is one of the most direct indicators of the city's tourism and economic pulse. The passenger figures that the State Airports Authority (DHMİ) publishes each month turn the course of the season and the movement of people into numbers. The August and January–August data released in early September 2026 show how busy the 2026 summer was. This article reports the figures and discusses what they mean for the regional economy and the housing market.

Antalya Airport in August 2026

According to reports based on DHMİ data (11 September 2026), Antalya Airport handled a total of 5,893,602 passengers in August 2026. Of these:

  • 756,612 were domestic,
  • 5,136,990 were international.

International passengers made up roughly 87 per cent of the total (we calculated this share from the figures above). In other words, the overwhelming majority of people flying into Antalya arrive from abroad, which shows how dependent the city is on tourism and foreign visitors.

In the same month the airport recorded 32,711 aircraft movements: 4,635 domestic and 28,076 international.

January–August 2026: 25 million passengers in eight months

According to DHMİ figures shared by Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu on 9 September 2026, Antalya Airport reached 25,103,581 passengers from January to August. Over the same period, total passengers at Turkish airports (including direct transit) were 167,552,966, up 2.8 per cent on the same period last year. Nationwide, 28,794,764 passengers were carried in August, a 4.1 per cent annual increase.

Setting the two figures against each other, Antalya handles about 15 per cent of all air passengers in Türkiye (this is our own approximate calculation, not an official share). That one city carries so much weight illustrates the place of tourism in the regional economy.

Is there a slight slowdown in August?

According to a brokerage analysis of TAV Airports' August traffic (10 September 2026), Antalya's total passengers in August fell by roughly 1 per cent year on year and international passengers by 2 per cent. This is consistent with the Antalya Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism data: foreign visitors in August were down 1.7 per cent year on year. Small declines coming from record levels do not mean the season weakened, but they do point to slower growth.

Such readings may vary between institutions. For exact, current percentages we recommend consulting the statistical tables that DHMİ publishes.

How do airport passengers affect the regional economy?

Airport traffic feeds into the regional economy and the property market through several channels:

  • Tourism income and jobs: passenger numbers feed straight into hotels, restaurants, transport and retail.
  • Accessibility: frequent and varied flight connections are one reason foreign buyers and second-home owners choose Antalya.
  • Logistics and surrounding development: transport and service investment gains value in districts around the airport. For the outlook, see our article on the Antalya Airport expansion and what it means for Altınova and Aksu.
  • Fast-growing districts: read our guide to Altıntaş, the area close to the airport.

What can be said about housing demand?

There is no direct, fixed mathematical relationship between airport passengers and home sales. A few takeaways are reasonable, though:

  • Access is a key criterion for remote buyers. People living abroad who consider buying in Antalya look at the number of direct flights and the distance to the airport.
  • Proximity to the airport cuts both ways. Easy transport is a plus, but aircraft noise and traffic can be a minus for some buyers. We suggest visiting a home at different times of day before deciding.
  • Seasonal swings: passenger numbers peak in summer and fall in winter. Take the seasonal swing into account when calculating rental yield.

If you plan to buy remotely, see our guide to buying property in Antalya without being there and the power of attorney. For the overall process, our page on buying a home in Antalya and the current projects will help.

Three points that are often confused in passenger statistics

  • Passenger numbers are not headcounts of people. Airport statistics count every departure and arrival separately; a tourist who flies to Antalya and back appears as two passengers.
  • Domestic and international tell different stories. Domestic passengers largely reflect movements of visitors and residents within Türkiye, while international passengers reflect foreign tourists and people living abroad. Because the international share in Antalya is high, developments in foreign markets stand out.
  • The treatment of direct transit can vary. National totals may include direct transit passengers, while airport tables may be presented with a different scope. When comparing, make sure the same scope is used.

Where to follow the figures

DHMİ publishes passenger, aircraft and cargo statistics for each airport every month. The Antalya Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism announces tourist numbers separately. In media reports the same figure may be rounded or have a different scope (with or without direct transit), so checking the DHMİ tables directly is the safest route before an important decision.

Conclusion

Antalya Airport served about 5.9 million passengers in August 2026 and 25.1 million from January to August. International passengers make up the great majority, and a slight annual decline is visible in August. The numbers show how dependent the regional economy is on tourism and how much accessibility matters. When making a housing decision, weigh passenger numbers together with interest rates, the exchange rate, supply and your own budget. Feel free to write to us with questions.
